Should I choose an oiled or lacquered wooden floor?

The choice between an oiled and lacquered floor is always a difficult question. In general, a lacquered wooden floor is more durable in spaces with higher pedestrian traffic and an oiled wooden floor gives a more natural and genuine wooden feeling but must at the same time be more maintained.

An oiled wooden floor has a natural structure that gives you a wonderful wooden feeling, but the floor also requires a little more maintenance. About once a year, the floor must be maintenance oiled to maintain its character. Should you get a scratch, it can often be treated and somewhat repaired by adding a little oil. We recommend an oiled wooden floor in less busy parts of the home such as bedrooms and living rooms. In a higher traffic environment, the floor requires more maintenance but works just as well.

A lacquered wooden floor has a smoother and more durable surface, which requires less periodic maintenance. The lacquered surface provides a hard protection that is easy to keep clean. A lacquered wooden floor requires less maintenance than an oiled floor, but is more difficult to repair if the lacquer is damaged. We generally recommend lacquered wooden floors in more congested areas such as kitchens, entrances and public environments.
